What is na9eeb.com’s mission?

Its mission is to help singles find well-suited partners in a way that is consistent with the teachings of the Qura’an and Sunnah, and assist married couples understand the challenges of marriage in order to improve the overall health of their relationship.

What inspired you to start na9eeb.com?

I realized that the means of getting married in our society was either through

1. the traditional way, arranged marriage

2. Meeting someone randomly in a public space

3. Talking to a guy on the phone and hoping he’ll propose one day.

So i started to ask my friends to help me find a suitable match, and this how i was introduced to my husband, by having an intermediary to facilitate the process. This was my inspiration for starting na9eeb.com.”

How does na9eeb.com work?

The way it works is as follows, a family member would approach me telling me that their relative (brother, son) is looking for a bride with certain characteristics. I either suggest someone I know who is compatible or ask my social network and friends for a suitable candidate. Once we identify a possible match we tell the relative, and if they are interested we approach the girl (the potential bride) and tell her the details. If she accepts we facilitate the process, whether she prefers his parents calling hers, meeting them for the 1st time, or exchanging information between them through emails or facebook till they are comfortable enough to contact each other to discuss marriage. In a case of a girl wishing for marriage, the process is adjusted accordingly.

I don’t help complete strangers, it’s always people from our same circle of friends, social group and background.  This is not a dating service! It’s a group to help decent single people GET MARRIED! A HALAL marriage. I would like to reiterate that I only help people I know or people I have mutual friends with.

Do you think the Saudi society is ready for such an idea?

The Saudi society is very diverse. The segment I deal with including my social circle is accepting of the idea. However, I cannot generalize about the whole Saudi society since in some very conservative segments this is still not understood. I hope that once they understand the process  they realize that the main difference from traditional methods and na9eeb.com’s is technology. Instead of the current way of looking for potential brides through parties and weddings; I am using the internet to connect with potential candidates in a casual way.

People who make an effort to suggest potential candidates show their love for others and are the backbone of na9eeb.com. I highly respect and admire these people because successful marriages can lead to a successful Ummah.

When did you officially start?

I started after I got married. I realized my husband had very decent single guy friends and I had even more single decent girl friends who were both ready for marriage but just couldn’t find a compatible match. So I helped them out by directing the compatible ones to each other.

Are you being attacked with any negative comments, please mention some?

The overwhelming majority of people and feedback is positive and encouraging. However, two comments I’ve received were skeptical  about the approach. A few people in our society tend to react to new things in a negative manner. One lady assumed it was a dating service with it is ABSOLUTELY NOT! However, when friends explained to her the process, she realized my intentions are genuine and serious.

Another lady said that she couldn’t believe that I was doing all of this without expecting anything in return, but Alhamdilla I am able to this for the sake of Allah. Spreading happiness and the joy of marriage in our society is something that I enjoy doing and I feel the need to help others, same way others helped me.

Do you know how many times or how many people visit the Facebook group you created?

I do not know how many times people visit the group on daily or weekly basis but i know there are more than 600 members in the group. I put the group settings on private which means the administrative members must approve requests for new memberships. I did it this way so the group won’t be open to the public. It is important for me to supervise the group and try to make sure no one with bad intentions is using this service.

You mentioned Facebook was causing you problems can we know what kind of problems where they?

Firstly, I have issues with Facebook’s privacy policies. Secondly, Facebook was blocking my messages because I was sending too many. This stopped me from being able to communicate efficiently with potential candidates. This is one of the reasons I created maha@na9eeb.com.

What is the foundation of na9eeb.com?

Confidentiality is one of the most crucial things here. I never share names, stories or information of people who contact me, unless they give me their approval.

What will is the difference between the website and the Facebook group?

On na9eeb.com

1. I can monitor who visits the website

2. People can fill in a questionnaire on the website which will allow me work efficiently and effectively

3. I’ll have more freedom and liberty to send as many messages as I want

4. I’ll have more control over privacy

5. I want a welcoming, warm and iterative website. Where all group members feel like they own it. they can post their ideas, thoughts, drawings, videos, anything they want as long as it complies with the rules & standards of the website.

6. I can add more functionalities on the na9eeb.com that are not available on facebook

7. Having a website gives it potential to grow, as a non profit organization where we can help married couples over come their problems, help engaged people have a better understanding and expectations of marriages and singles by suggesting compatible people, etc.

8. Finally, i want it to be more organized. Having different sections: articles and publications, news, events, photos, videos, a section for successful marriages, a section for singles where they can suggest compatible candidates, a section for engaged couples for marriage awareness and expectations, events, summaries of previous events conducted, etc. Facebook is very limited
